AyoBacaNews.Com, Bandung- Former South Korean football player Shin Tae-yong, also known by his initials STY, is the coach of the Indonesian national team.
Coach Shin previously served as South Korea's World Cup coach. As a coach and player, he was the first to win the Asian Club Championship and AFC Champions League.
He and Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma won the AFC Champions League in 2010 and the Asian Club Championship in 1995. In addition, he is regarded as the greatest coach in Indonesian national team history.
Following his graduation from Yeungnam University, Shin played for Ilhwa Chunma for 12 seasons. In 1992, the year he began his professional playing career, he was awarded the K-League Young Player of the Year Award.
He was a vital member of Ilhwa Chunma's squad from 1993 to 1995, when they won the K-League three times in a row. In addition to winning the Asian Club Championship at the end of the 1995 season, he was named the K-League MVP.
Following then, Ilhwa Chunma struggled for a while before winning the match once more with Shin Tae-yong's help. From 2001 to 2003, they were able to win the league three times in a row, and in 2001, Shin Tae-yong was awarded his second MVP Award.
In 401 K-League games, he scored 99 goals, 68 assists, and won the League Cup. Instead of sticking with just one club, he decided to travel to Australia and play in the A-League for Queensland Roar.
He was chosen for the K-League 30th Anniversary Best XI in 2013 and is regarded as one of the greatest K-League players of all time.
Then, in 2005, he retired because of ankle issues. With his technical skills, he accepted the position of assistant coach with his previous team, serving as Miron Bleiberg's assistant.
His 23 international appearances included one with the South Korean national team at the 1996 AFC Asian Cup.
